THE FESTIVAL THEATER
210 North Washington Street
St. Croix Falls WI 54024

Festival Theater has been, since its founding in 1990, one of the best kept secrets in the mid-West. The theater arts company produces a wide range of excellent plays each season with a cast that comes largely from the surrounding community but can occasionally feature some of the top talent in the Twin Cities area.
The management - Pam Fuchs, the Manager, and Jaclyn Johnson, the Artistic Director, together with the crew - are key hard-working parts of the production. They produce terrific plays and also offer the community a full range of other entertainment centered around musical performances and comedy. Each year they feature special productions, usually involving children from the area, for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas productions.
Like most theaters, they don't have a lot of money. So, it came as a surprise to them when I waltzed in unannounced one day and told them I was looking for a chance to make interesting photographs of people doing interesting things. They were really taken aback when I told them the photographs were free, but they were also a little skeptical of what I was capable of doing. I was too. So, we agreed on a test run: I would photograph "The Miser" and see what we got.
The rest is history. I really enjoy working with them there and it seems the photos are useful not only to the theater, but also to the actors who need photos of their performances in order to land more roles.

I'm documenting what life is like for actors and crew backstage at the Festival as they rehearse and prepare for their roles. This documentary project is for the long haul. I'll post new shots of each performance and the flavor of what it is like for these talented actors and production people. Click on the orange type to see the slideshow.
