Suddenly Last Summer...

This one-act play is considered one of the most poetic — and shocking — works of Tennessee Williams. The TRP production that director Allen Hamilton has created is the very spirit of this work.
A prominent New Orleans family is mourning the sudden death of its only son, Sebastian. The grief of his mother Violet (Annette Kurek) is matched only by her determination to silence her niece Catherine (Anni Amberg)— whose memories of Sebastian's final days are so traumatic that she's been committed to an asylum. If Violet has her way, the doctors ( Ryan Maddux) will cut those memories out of Catherine's brain forever.
It seems that the actors who trod the boards at the Theatre in the Round put in extra effort when doing iconic plays requiring a great deal of emotion and commitment to the characters. This production is no exception. Each member of the cast, from the controlling mother (Muriel Bonertz), to the playboy brother (Bill Williamson), to the anxiety-ridden attendant (Julia Steincross), to the doting nun (Nancy Lipinski) come together as an ensemble that gets the meaning of the tension in these incredibly dysfunctional relationships.
